The Badung Regent, I Nyoman Giri Prasta, and his vice, I Ketut Sutiasa, inaugurated 89 Independent Recycle Banks (BSM) for the North Kuta Mangu Srikandi Family Welfare Program (PKK) on Wednesday at Wantilan Pura Dalem Kahyangan, Pipitan, Canggu.

With this inauguration and other programs that have been implemented by the Badung government, the Regent is optimistic that the Badung Rubbish Independent 2021 program can be achieved. The Regent also thanked the North Kuta community, who created the 89 independent recycle banks and that the program would be a role model to implement a clean Badung.

The Regent explained that his government has also created a Synchronized Action for a Clean Badung group to help achieve the goal. The movement is carried out on the first week of the month. “We have 38 OPD (Regional Officer Organizations) and one OPD is supervising two villages which all move simultaneously. Meanwhile, the cleaning of temples would be carried out every full moon by the community, particularly the youth, and it would be coordinated by customary leaders and the banjar,” said the Regent to beritabali.com.

Nyoman Giri also told every village has to have an integrated waste management area (TPST) to classify and separate the rubbish. Some of the waste would be delivered to the Organic Waste Management plant at Sobangan to be converted to organic fertilizer. Meanwhile, the wet waste would be processed until it produced maggots which would then become bird and fish feed and plastic waste would be processed by recycle banks.

“We can convert this rubbish into money. I am quite sure that Badung District will be independent of rubbish by 2021,” he added.

Badung targeted that they would have 1000 recycle banks in 2019. The target is set to make Badung the first district in Indonesia that would have a networked system of recycle banks and the Regent believed that the recycle banks are one of the most important parts to realising the Gertak Clean Badung program.

The Badung Regent also gave an award to the Head of North Kuta District at the event in appreciation of the district forming 89 independent recycle banks.
