Australian man found dead while should have been in rehab

An Australian man, Isaac Emmanuel Roberts, 35, a self-confessed drug addict, who was sentenced by Denpasar District Court judges on April 11, 2018 to rehabilitate his addiction for 15 months in Bali’s Anargya Foundation, was found dead in his home country.

The man, who was caught with 14 grams of methamphetamine and 15 ecstasy pills, was taken back to Australia by his family after the local foundation declared that his condition had improved, even though he hadn’t served the complete sentence.

It was suspected that the man died from an overdose (but it is not stated in the source article in beritabali.com why there is that assumption).

The death was confirmed by his lawyer who accompanied him during his trial in Bali. “Yes, it’s true. We spoke to his family and they said that he had died. But we don’t know the exact cause of death,” said the lawyer, Edward Pangkahila, SH, to Berita Bali. “His family are rather closed on the matter and while they confirmed the news they didn’t want to speak more about the death. It’s all a shame because he had been much better here,” he added.

Roberts should have been set free in July 2019, but there was information that said he had been deported three months ago.
The Head of Bali Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Amran Aris told Berita Bali that a deportation could be processed if a foreigner had overstayed and didn’t have any legal issues.

“We will only carry out a deportation after a defendant completes the sentence and the deadline has expired. We won’t do it secretly. If you want to confirm about this, please go to the Head of Immigration Information on Monday,” he concluded.
